The Camp Manager will oversee the full operations of Offbeat Ndoto, ensuring a seamless guest experience while maintaining the highest standards across hospitality, facilities, and service. This leadership role requires a visible, hands-on presence, balancing guest hosting with staff mentorship and operational oversight. The Camp Manager will also be responsible for financial controls, compliance, and community engagement, playing a pivotal role in upholding the camp’s conservation and sustainability ethos.

Role Overview


The Camp Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and smooth daily operation of the camp. This role requires an energetic, guest-facing individual who is passionate about hospitality, thrives on being hands-on and leads by example. The Camp Manager must be highly visible to guests, an active presence across all areas of camp operations and deeply engaged in mentoring the team by showing, guiding and working alongside them rather than simply instructing.


Key Responsibilities


Guest Experience & Hosting


  • Personally host guests, ensuring a warm, welcoming and professional atmosphere at all times.
  • Be a consistent and visible presence during meals, activities and in the camp environment.
  • Anticipate guest needs and resolve issues quickly, always striving to exceed expectations.
  • Communicate the camp’s conservation and community ethos to guests.


Hands-On Operations Management


  • Oversee all daily, weekly and monthly Front of House (FOH) and Back of House (BOH) operations.
  • Work alongside staff in service, housekeeping, maintenance, or kitchen areas as needed, demonstrating high standards through action.
  • Ensure facilities, guest tents, public areas, and common spaces are always maintained to the highest standards.
  • Support in menu planning, food quality and service presentation.
  • Monitor costs, stock and budget closely with a proactive approach to savings without compromising quality.
  • Ensure strong communication and reporting with the Operations Manager.


Team Leadership & Development


  • Lead by example, motivating staff through presence, participation and mentoring rather than instruction alone.
  • Provide on-the-job training, demonstrating the correct way to perform tasks.
  • Foster a culture of pride, teamwork and accountability across all departments.
  • Address issues constructively and uphold discipline in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Approve duty rosters, leave and ensure adequate coverage at all times.


Administration & Compliance

  • Complete stock takes, inventories and management reports accurately and on time.
  • Maintain strict financial controls and authorisation procedures.
  • Ensure health, hygiene and safety standards are consistently met.
  • Oversee preventive and reactive maintenance of camp assets, with a focus on longevity and efficiency.

Community & Environmental Responsibility


  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, neighbors, and conservancy management.
  • Uphold the company’s environmental policies and contribute to conservation goals.


Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in high-end safari camp or lodge management.
  • Warm, approachable personality with strong hosting skills.
  • Energetic, physically present and comfortable being hands-on in all areas of camp operations.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a collaborative “lead by example” approach.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Financially and administratively competent, with an eye for detail.
  • Committed to sustainability, community engagement and guest satisfaction.
